Power do come from the people, indeed if it true, then their views and voices must be heard, which has never been the case in Sierra Leone.
Our leaders are being elected by the people every four and five years respectively through Local Council, Legislative and Presidential Elections. But over the years, little or no attention has been paid to the burning issues affecting their daily lives.
President Julius Maada Bio has changed such a narrative by paying keen attention to each and every bit of what is unfolding in the country.
Bio doesn’t only rely on hearsay, but religiously monitoring every happening and concern that is being raised by his people.
President Bio is a servant of the people rather being served by the person, which was clearly exhibited under the previous APC Administration.
And demonstration to such a notion that President Bio cares for the nation and also he is a listening father was when he personally gave out part of his salary for almost a year to fund the free quality education, which is currently benefiting over 2 million pupils.
The free quality education initiative is not only benefiting the pupils, but billion of Leones have already been saved by parents, as a result of tuition fees and other school charges which his Government is now paying.
President Bio is a born leader, and such gesture was also followed by hosts of his ministers, because of what such an initiative tends to achieve in years to come.
Such sacrifice was never made by the previous APC Administration, but rather focused on personal gains by siphoning billion of Leones from our national cake.
While he was in opposition, the school going pupils then had tired and fed up with the SSS4 system, wherein lots of girls ended up being impregnated, and became drop out, due to such unfriendly policy.
The cries were many, coming from parents and the kids as well, so the President of the people (Julius Maada Bio) immediately reviewed such a policy, from 6-3-4-4 to 6-3-3-4 by giving the parents and pupils what they wanted , but also a system of education which is beneficial to the nation as well.
Since the change of 6-3-3-4 system, lots of goodies have emanated from such a system, as we are now experiencing huge number of passes in the NPSE, BECE and WASSCE examinations.
It is not a magic to see the President policies and programs being successful, it is happening because he listened to the people before he makes decisions.
Furthermore, our President is there for us, and since he is there for us, he has ensures that the gray areas which were picked up during the Constitutional Reviewed process, were upheld by him and his Government in the White Paper.
And amongst such issue which was upheld by him is the separation of the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice
Mind you, such issue was also raised by the committee members under the Ernest Bai Koroma era, but he didn’t give credence to it.
Our readers, If you may recall, 134 recommendations were presented to Former President Koroma by the 80 man committee members, but he ended up accepted 34 recommendations.
And even those 34 which were accepted were those that were never in contention by the critical minds of the country.
In addition, our journalists and freedom of expression fighters have been crying for the repeal of Part V of the Public Order Act of 1965, which criminalizes the work of journalists then, wherein hundreds of critical writers had been jailed by politicians, using the law for their own protections.
Even though President Bio is the most victimized President by the media, he didn’t take such to consideration but did what was necessary and gave his assent to the repeal of such a barbaric law that has stood for over 50 years.
Of late President Bio relieved his Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Anthony Brewah, due to public outcry about the released of LAC, a popular magician and herbalist.
Despite sacking his right hand adviser, the issue is currently under investigation, in order to gain public confidence.
President Julius Maada Bio doesn’t make laws and policies to suit him neither his government but undertake reforms to benefit the entire nation.
