In a pivotal meeting at State House on November 5, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio welcomed Bernard Mwinyel Hien, the Regional Head of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for West and Central Africa, along with key figures from the global energy sector.
The discussions were aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and food security in Sierra Leone.
During the constructive engagement, President Bio emphasized the urgency of transforming the agricultural sector to achieve the country’s Feed Salone objective. “We are committed to an energy transition plan that supports green growth,” he stated, highlighting the essential role of sustainable energy in boosting agricultural output.
The meeting also addressed how renewable energy can be integrated into agricultural practices, a strategy that could significantly enhance the livelihoods of many Sierra Leoneans.
In addition, by collaborating with international organizations like IFAD, the government aims to access crucial resources and expertise necessary for its energy transition initiatives.
This gathering reflects a broader commitment by President Bio’s administration to tackle food insecurity and climate change challenges.
The discussions underline the administration’s ambition to position Sierra Leone as a leader in sustainable agriculture within the West African region, ultimately striving for a resilient and self-sufficient food system.
Moreover, collaboration with global energy sector leaders is seen as a crucial step toward achieving these goals, as the government seeks to ensure that agricultural transformation is not only effective but also environmentally sustainable.
Conclusively, this is a phenomenal move from His Excellency and a step in the right direction to bolster the global agriculture Sector in Sierra Leone, which will benefit all Sierra Leoneans.
