In a significant step toward sustainable development, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has expressed strong support for the Salone Off-grid Renewable Energy Acceleration Initiative a transformative project aimed at expanding green energy access across Sierra Leone.
During a high-level briefing held at the Presidential Office, President Bio received detailed updates on the initiative, which features a flagship Solar Minigrid project targeting rural electrification. The President welcomed the initiative, describing it as more than just an energy solution.
“This project is not just about energy; it’s about empowering our communities and fostering economic growth,” he stated, emphasizing the urgency of transitioning to renewable energy in response to global climate challenges.
The initiative is being implemented through a collaborative effort involving the European Union, UNOPS, and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL). Together, these stakeholders aim to address energy poverty, particularly in rural areas, by deploying solar minigrids that offer reliable, clean electricity to underserved communities.
This strategy goes beyond meeting immediate energy needs. It lays the foundation for long-term environmental stewardship, economic empowerment, and sustainable infrastructure development.
