This landmark agreement marks a pivotal step in strengthening the enduring friendship and economic cooperation between the two nations.
On behalf of the government of Sierra Leone, Chief Minister Dr. David Moininah Sengeh officially signed the CEPA, which is designed to enhance trade and investment cooperation, reduce trade barriers, increase investment flows, and foster private sector collaboration across key sectors, including agriculture, mining, and infrastructure. The partnership is expected to stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities in Sierra Leone.
During the signing ceremony, President Bio emphasized the significance of the agreement in reinforcing Sierra Leone’s economic landscape.
“This partnership represents a significant opportunity for our nation, one that will create jobs and drive sustainable development,” he stated.
By aligning with the UAE’s advanced and diversified economy, Sierra Leone aims to leverage new technologies and innovations, which will be crucial for modernizing its sectors. The ceremony also highlighted the success story of trade between the UAE and India, where bilateral trade surged from $60 billion to over $100 billion in three years following their own CEPA, demonstrating the potential benefits of effective economic partnerships.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed praised the longstanding ties between the UAE and Sierra Leone and noted that the CEPA would benefit both nations while contributing positively to regional stability and development. He underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing shared challenges and harnessing mutual opportunities.
The formalization of this partnership reflects the strategic vision of both countries in navigating a rapidly changing global economy. The CEPA provides a strong foundation for sustained growth, private sector engagement, and long-term economic collaboration.
The signing of the agreement marks a promising chapter in Sierra Leone-UAE relations, opening the door to transformative growth, job creation, and mutual prosperity in the years ahead.
