President Bio and President Boakai Pledge Regional Unity Through Agriculture, Democracy

In a landmark meeting at State House in Freetown on Tuesday, 19th November 2025, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone and his Liberian counterpart, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., committed to a shared vision of transforming West Africa through strengthened regional cooperation, agricultural innovation, and democratic stability.

The two Heads of State, representing nations with deep historical ties, highlighted the transformative power of agriculture as a cornerstone for economic growth, job creation, and food security. President Boakai lauded President Bio’s flagship initiative, Feed Salone, describing it as a revolutionary step towards self-reliance and sustainable development. President Bio, in turn, commended President Boakai’s ambitious plans to prioritize agriculture in Liberia, emphasizing its role in combating poverty and fostering prosperity across the Mano River Union (MRU) region.

“Together, we must unlock the potential of our fertile lands,” President Bio stated. “Our collaboration in agriculture will feed our people and empower them, creating opportunities that transcend borders.”

President Boakai echoed this sentiment: “This is a time for our nations to lead by example, demonstrating how shared goals can unite us in progress. Agriculture will be the foundation of our regional transformation.”

The dialogue extended beyond agriculture to address critical democratic challenges in the MRU and ECOWAS regions. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peaceful transitions of power, highlighting the importance of democracy in ensuring regional stability. They also discussed strategies to strengthen cross-border cooperation, foster harmonious coexistence among border communities, and celebrate the rich cultural diversity that unites their peoples.

In a symbolic gesture, President Bio congratulated President Boakai on his recent electoral victory, describing it as a testament to the Liberian people’s trust and confidence. President Boakai, in turn, expressed admiration for President Bio’s leadership and vision for Sierra Leone.

As the meeting concluded, the two leaders pledged to collaborate on impactful initiatives that would uplift their nations while serving as a blueprint for regional unity.
