On 1st December 2024, President Julius Maada Bio joined First Lady Mrs. Fatima Bio in an  awareness-raising event at the Golf Club along the beach, focusing on the importance of early detection and treatment of prostate cancer.

This initiative comes in response to the alarming rates of late diagnoses among men in Sierra Leone, which have led to many preventable fatalities.

The event, which attracted a diverse audience, aimed to highlight the critical need for awareness regarding prostate cancer, a disease that has impacted countless families across the nation.

First Lady Fatima Bio has been a steadfast advocate for health issues, particularly those affecting men, and her ongoing collaboration with local and international partners is central to the campaign’s mission.

“Prostate cancer is a silent killer, and we must do everything in our power to educate our communities about its risks and the importance of early testing,” said Mrs. Bio during her address.

Her remarks underscored the need for increased awareness and access to health care services, emphasizing that early detection can save lives.

The awareness walk was not only a show of solidarity but also an essential step in mobilizing community support for prostate cancer initiatives.

The Bio administration is committed to strengthening health services to ensure that modern care is available to those diagnosed with the disease.

In addition to raising awareness, the event served as a platform for sharing information about available health resources and encouraging men to seek regular medical check-ups.

As part of their broader health strategy, the government aims to enhance diagnostic services and public education on prostate cancer.

This initiative reflects a growing recognition of health disparities in Sierra Leone and a commitment to addressing them through proactive measures.

Conclusively, with First Lady Fatima Bio at the forefront, the campaign seeks to foster a culture of health awareness that could lead to earlier diagnoses and better outcomes for men across the country.
