Pres. Bio Commends Pee Cee Agriculture for Onion Harvest, Encourages Expansion into Rice Production

President Dr Julius Maada Bio lauded Pee Cee Agriculture Limited’s initiative as they commenced the harvest of a 400-hectare onion farm in Lokomasama Chiefdom, Port Loko District, marking a significant stride towards reducing onion importation in Sierra Leone.

In a ceremony held on April 13th, 2024, President Bio expressed gratitude to Pee Cee & Sons and extended appreciation to local authorities and landowners for facilitating the company’s landmark investment. He emphasized the potential of collective efforts within the agricultural sector to transform Sierra Leone into an exporting nation.

President Bio underscored the government’s commitment to supporting private sector ventures like Pee Cee & Sons, encouraging them to expand into full-scale rice production. He urged Paramount Chiefs nationwide to allocate land for productive use and appealed to importers to embrace local production.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Henry Musa Kpaka, hailed Pee Cee & Sons as a prime example of President Bio’s vision for the Feed Salone Initiative. He highlighted the company’s growth from 10 to 400 hectares and its partnership with 1,000 onion farmers, attributing their success to the supportive environment fostered by the government.

Mahesh Nandwani, CEO of Pee Cee & Sons, expressed gratitude for President Bio’s support and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to agricultural development. He stressed the pivotal role of agriculture in national development, affirming Pee Cee’s dedication to transitioning into full-time agricultural activities.

The event signifies a significant step towards achieving food security and reducing dependency on imports in Sierra Leone. Pee Cee Agriculture’s endeavors align with the government’s broader agenda of promoting self-sufficiency and economic growth through agricultural innovation.
