The Chairman for the All Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), Abdulai Bangura (esq) has commended the leadership of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) for their peaceful conduct during the Presidential Nomination process held at the Atouga Stadium in the east end of Freetown on Tuesday 2nd May 2023.
He said the conduct of SLPP party supporters was commendable with no street rally or the use of invectives against opponents. “This is the second time the SLPP has an activity without assembling supporters in the street”.
Bangura has cautioned the leadership of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) to show restraint and talk to their supporters not to violate the code of conducts set by the Commission. “We saw crowds of APC supporters processing the street leading to confrontation with the police”, he charged.
The Commissioner also commends both the SLPP and APC leaderships noting that no vulgar song or destruction of campaign material was reported to the Commission during the nomination of Dr. Samura Kamara and subsequently the nomination of the incumbent, Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
He said they would continue to constantly engage the leaderships of the political parties to go by the code of conducts stressing that it beholds every party to go by that code and give peace a chance.
He called on party supporters to edit their conducts not to necessitate a situation that would warrant police intervention.
There is a penalty prescribed for the use of vulgar songs or destruction of campaign materials.
