Ports Authority Football Club has on the 25th May 2022 defeated Wusum Stars football club by two goals to nil to keep hope alive from the relegation zone of Sierra Leone topflight Premier League.
Two goals came in the second half of play as both teams play to the dull first half with no goals after a series of attempts from both teams, but the second half was a different match-all together from the host Port Authority Football club because a win is the only alternative to guaranty for them to get a stay in the Premier League.
The first goal is scored from the penalty spot and is converted by Joseph Cleveland from the penalty spot and the second goal is scored by Mohamed Fobie through a counterattack and beats the defense of Wusum Stars and chips the ball over the head of the goal-Keeper and that secured the all-important three-point for the host who only now needed a point in their last seal, the survival from the relegation zone.
Hassan Milla Sesay, the assistant head coach of Ports Authority Football Club said the win is a great relief for the club ahead of their last match in the battle from the relegation zone.
He noted that during the first half his boys were sloppy because of the different results that were coming from the different venues across the country.
“We had to talk to the boys during the second half that they need to fight for the goals and only win will make our stay in the Premier League next season and they have to push and get the goals that have to grant us our stay next season”, he explained.
He called on all Ports Authority football fans to come out in numbers and support their team in their last match at Brima Attouga.
Sheku Lahai one of the backroom staff of the Wusum Stars football club said it is because of poor officiating that caused them to lose the match by such a margin.
He noted that in the first half that they had a penalty which is not given by the Center Referee and in the second half also they had a handball in the eighteen-yard box, that again was turned down by the center Referee all those chances caused a huge upset to the boys not to match up with the trend of the match.
