Ports Authority Football Club on 10th February 2023 has tamed Freetown City Council Football Club as they defeated them by two goals (2-0) nil in the Sierra Leone Premier League at the Brima Attougia Mini Stadium.
The match is described as an Eastern derby between the two teams because they are using the same venue for training and hosting their home matches and there was intense rivalry between the two sides.
The match started with pace play from both sides, but the Visitors Ports Authority Football Club took the lead close to the end of the first half as Abu Bakarr Kamara scored a scramble ball in the six-yard box to give his side the early lead before going for the break.
Early on in the first half Edward Cole gets a couple of chances but failed to convert any as the match went for a break.
After the first-half break, both teams returned for a continuation of the second half, but the host started brightly in the second half, but they failed to convert any of their chances in the final third.
Ports Authority Football Club doubled their lead in the (59) minutes of play as Joseph Cleveland volleyed in a free kick in the (18) yards and Derosimi Ibrahim put a head to the ball to give his second much need goal to wrap up the win for the Waterfront boys as the win took them to fifth position with Eighteen points.
The host tried hard to get back in the match but they were not clinical in front of the goal and that was how they lose the match with lots of chances not converted.
In Freetown City Council`s Football Club next match,they will be travelling away to an in form Mighty Blackpool that has lost just once in the league so far, While Port Authority Football club host East End Lions Football Club at the Brima Attougia Mini Stadium next weekend.
Lamin Bangura the head coach of Port Authority Football Club said he feels happy because his boys worked according to the game plan and that helps them to get a win against a difficult Club like Freetown City Council Football Club which plays more physical Football.
He furthered that, the win has now given confidence to the boys as they brace up to host East End Lions Football Club who are a strong side, but will go back to the training grounds and prepare hard to get the three points and expressed confidence that the boys are going to do the needful come that day.
Patrick Bangura the head coach of Freetown City Council said, they are disappointed with the results because this was not what they wanted in the match.
He furthered that, they are now going home to prepare as they will have to play against Mighty Blackpool next Weekend, and they are sure that they will correct their mistakes before facing them.
Meanwhile, in Mankeni, the current Champions Bo Rangers Football Club defeats Wusum Stars at Home to move eight points clear.
The Visitors took the lead through Joseph Cole in the 44th-minute strike before Abu Komeh doubled the lead three minutes into the second half.
The Elephants are topping the table with thirty points after twelve games, and they have scored fourteen goals and conceded six with nine wins and three draws.
The defeat has left Wusum Stars bottom of the table with six points. The Northern Rocks have only secured one win in their last twelve matches (W1, D3, L8).
At this time last season, Wusum was third after 12 games with twenty-four points (W7, D3, L2), scoring thirteen and conceding six.
In their next fixtures, the Northern Rocks will face Bai Bureh Warriors while Bo Rangers take on Freetonians SLIFA on Saturday.
