The 2018 Presidential Candidate of the National Grand Coalition Party (NGC) Dr Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has in a cryptic whatsapp message to the party’s elders notified the party of his resignation from the party.

According to the elders the 2018 Presidential Candidate sent a message to their strategic alliance forum WhatsApp group to which members of the group referred to it as short but telling.

The message reads “I have come to the end of the road, so best wishes and Godspeed to those who will now want to inherit the NGC party.”

He informed the party that he and his late wife have paid the rent for the party’s headquarter and subsequent dues of the party, that in the coming years the party’s rent has been sorted out.

According to sources of the party, calls and SMS put through to Dr Yumkella went unanswered, to which there have been claims within and outside of the party of him returning to his father’s party the Sierra Leone People’s Party which he left to contest as a presidential candidate for the NGC.

Dr Kandeh Yumkella had served as Minister of Trade in 1994 in the late Dr Ahmed Tejan Kabbah of blessed memory Administration, he later left and joined the United Nations where he rose to the top, becoming the Under Secretary general, special representative of the UN Secretary General on Sustainable energy and was twice elected as Director General of the United Nations Development Organization (UNIDO). Currently he was appointed by His Excellency Julius Maada Bio as Chairman of the Presidential Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security.
