Since Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu assumed office as the President of the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association, conscious efforts have been made to put the Association on the right trajectory, for the benefit and improvement of the lives of Police Wives across various Police Barracks in the country.

In pursuit of her dreams, Mrs. Sellu and a cross-section of her executive on Friday 21st October, 2022, met with the Ghanaian High Commissioner, Her Excellency Worwornyo Agyeman at Spur Road, in Freetown.

Mrs. Sellu and team were received and welcomed by Mr. Daniel Agyepong, Head of Chancery, and Mr. Ernest Owusu Probbey, Head of Consular of the said High Commission.

Mrs. Sellu briefed Her Excellency about the existence of the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association; noting that the Association is made up of Police Wives with National and Regional Executive members who coordinate the affairs of its memberships in all Police Barracks.

The aim, she said, is to promote economic strides, social and vocational training for the aforementioned women.

She further maintained that since she ascended to the position of President for the Association, she had embarked on a nation-wide tour in all the Police Barracks, in a bid to acquaint herself with the general membership of the Association and map out developments for the Association.

She threw light on some of the challenging issues faced by Police Wives in all the Police Barracks as thus

 Lack of safe drinking water.

Lack of medical facility in the Barracks.

Lack of toilet/wash facilities and amongst others.

“We have one vocational training institute at Kingtom Police Barracks of which I am seeking support to establish same in the provincial towns, in order to empower colleague Police Wives”, Mrs.Sellu stated.

Responding, Her Excellency Worwornyo   Agyeman thanked and appreciated the effort of Mrs.Matilda Doris Sellu for the initiative and the aspirations she had expressed to collaborate with Police Wives Association in the Sub Region, especially in Ghana.

Her Excellency expressed optimism about the idea and promised to enquire from Ghana if a prototype of such association exists in the Police, and to help create the link with the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association, for a better collaboration.

“I am impressed with your desire of making sure that your colleague Police Wives achieves a better living; but I am interested to know the types of courses offered at the vocational training institute at Kingtom Police Barracks”, she asked.

However, Mrs. Sellu took time to explain the type of courses offered and the chances of benefits they are agitating for upon graduation from the said institute.

In addendum, Mr. Ernest Owusu Probbey commended the effort of Mrs. Sellu and team and reaffirmed their commitment to helping to promulgate the ideology of the Association.

Group photo and handing over of report of the familiarisation tour and the strategic development plan climaxed the session.
