The roles of women organisations in contemporary times have yielded in the achievements of many goals, thus the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association (SLPWA) under the dynamic leadership of Mrs Matilda Doris Sellu has taken the bold steps in adding credence to the calls of a peaceful conduct of the 2023 elections by embarking on a nationwide No violence campaign.
Addressing youths and women who are more susceptible, President of SLPWA Madam Maltida Doris Sellu informed that it was time for them to say it in the face of politicians who always come around to use them for violence during electioneering period that enough was enough.
“Have you ever seen their children taking the lead in violence? the answer is no. Their children are staying abroad while they come here using you for their selfish benefit” said Madam Sellu.
She continued that no politician would come forward to stand in their defence when they fall foul of the law and got arrested.
She also kicked against the targeting of Police officers, noting that currently every family member in the country is either pushing their relative or friend to be recruited into the police.
“In the ongoing police recruitment, every family want a relative or friend to be recruited, assuming yesterday you have killed a police and tomorrow others also want to kill your own relative that has become a police” she said and therefore appealed that the police should be seen as members of the society and not enemy.
Power she said comes from God and therefore urged them to go home and listen to the results through radio after casting their votes.
Other speakers including Paramount Chiefs, Chiefdom speakers, drivers union representatives, commercial bikes riders, traders union and local policing partnership board pledges support to the no violence campaign drive with assurance that their communities would maintain the peace and tranquility before, during and after elections.
