Detective Police Constable 14081 Kanu B Attached at the Crime Prevention Units at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters at Pademba Road, Freetown, on Friday 20th January 2023, testified before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No 1 on an obtaining money case.
The witness told the Court that he recall on the 18th August 2022, as he was on duty when complainant Abdulai Daramy came and reported the alleged offence against the accused Ibrahim Kamara by obtaining money from him, he then obtained statement from complainant and witnesses.
On the 20th August 2022, himself and Detective Sergeant 9620 Kamara S.I caution and question the accused in krio which he recorded in English.
At the conclusion he read the statement to him which he admitted to be true and correct, the accused signed his statement with his right hand thumb print witness by Detective Sergeant 9620 Kamara S.I. the statement was tendered in court to form part of the Court record.
The witness went on to say on the same date he charged the accused with the offence of obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916 and the charge statement was also tendered in Court to form part of the Court record.
After the testimony he was cross examined by the defense Counsel A.R Kargbo it could be recall that the accused Ibrahim Kamara is charged on a count of obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the charge sheet the accused on a date unknown between the 28th April and 15th July 2022, at Light foot Boston Street, Swizzy, Freetown, with intent to defraud obtained from Abdulai Daramy the sum of forty five million Leones by falsely pretending that he have 1 red Toyota Prius vehicle for sale which is known to be false.
The prosecutor Sergeant 9155 Dwight Macarthy told the court he has closed his case.
However, Magistrate Ngegba adjourned the matter to the 6th February 2023 the accused is on bail.
