In a tranquil atmosphere, the elections for the Chairmanship of the Bike Riders Union (BRU) in Mattru Jong Park saw Ansu Murana securing a renewed term after a decisive win. Under the vigilant eye of Sierra Leone Police officers, the voting process unfolded smoothly on Saturday, November 25th, 2023.

Chief Superintendent of Police Augustine Kabia, alongside the Operation Officers, emphasized the need for heightened security during and after the election across various key locations, including Gbap Nongoba Bullum, Madina Bum, Gambia Jong, and Senehun Jong. The cautionary measures aimed to prevent any potential disturbances given the community’s inclination toward swift agitation.

Following strategic deployments in Mattru Jong, the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) oversaw the election process. Out of 441 registered BRU voters, 389 participated, while 52 chose not to cast their ballots. The contenders, Francis Benjamin Lamin and the incumbent Ansu Murana, vied for the Chairmanship. The results revealed a victory for Ansu Murana, alias Mansofa, who garnered 214 valid votes against Francis Benjamin Lamin’s 175.

District BRU Chairman Ansumana Kamarawill, acting as the District Returning Officer, officially declared Ansu Murana as the re-elected Chairman of the BRU Mattru Jong Park. The conclusion of the election saw jubilant celebrations among Ansu Murana’s supporters, marked by singing and dancing in honor of his successful retention of the chairmanship.
