At last peace is going to return to Sahn Malen chiefdom in Pujehun district if the dialogue between the chiefdom people and the Socfin Agricultural Company ends up well as discussions on peace and reconciliation are ongoing.
The dialogue is being facilitated by Fambul Tok and supervised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Office of the Vice President, through the Peace Building Fund. During the previous meeting held in the chiefdom, in the presence of the Member of Parliament, Hon. Shaka Musa Sama and Chief Kebi, the people demanded for the Technical Committee report recommended by the President.
According to the Executive Director, Fambul Tok, John Caulker, there had been communication gap existing between the people and the company. He said within the next few months, the gap will be filled for mutual cooperation and peace to exist between the two parties noting that the chiefdom stands to benefit more from the company if peace reigns.
However, Socfin Agricultural Company has declared this year as the year of peace and reconciliation with higher determination to spread more olive branches to the chiefdom in terms of peace and development.
It could be recalled that the company and the people of the chiefdom have been at logger heads over land allocated to the company by the government.
The people claimed that only selected few are benefiting from the company and not the chiefdom at large. The Vice President had been sent on a fact finding mission to Sahn Malen but the report is yet to come out.
