Paramount Chiefs of the three Chiefdoms in Kissydom have pleaded with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu, whom they refer to as son of the soil, to upgrade the Koindu Police Station to Division.

According to the Chiefs, Koindu Station is situated in a geographical setting sharing borders with two neighboring countries and several porous crossing points which makes it very strategic.

“We are also witnessing an increase in population” they said.

They disclosed that the Station is always face with the challenge of limited personnel to man the border crossing points and at the same time provide effective policing; a trend they said poses security threat.

In his response, IGP Sellu assures of conveying their appeal to the Police Council for address, noting that security assessment was part of his visit.

He continued that their plea for more personnel was reasonable from all indications taking into consideration boundaries, increase in population and crime rate among others.

Should their plea be acceded to by the Police Council, the IGP informed that he will raise up the command structure, add other units like the Complaint Discipline and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID)and Integrated Intelligent Services (IIS) to match a Division standard.

The IGP also admonished personnel to be professional, work with the communities, stay off from politics and most importantly warned them to abstain from drugs, emphasizing the SLP zero tolerance to drugs.

His visit was climax with a conducted tour of the police station and Barracks.
