The Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) in collaboration with Climate Change and Sustainable Development Consortium (CliCSuD) Sierra Leone have embarked on a 15 days of action.
The initiative is an African Wide initiative aimed at mobilizing and stimulating actions and reinforcing efforts to exercise the power of collective action and community struggles ahead of COP 26 which will be held in November, this year.
According to the PACJA Focal Person in Sierra Leone, Henry Bayoh , the overall theme for which they are demanding action is ‘Towards Climate Justice for Africa’ while Sierra Leone is focusing on ‘Understanding Climate Justice and the Role of Citizens.’
“This is geared towards bringing together diverse stakeholders including individuals in public and Private sectors to catalyze the consciousness around climate justice with activities including roads shows,’’Mr Bayoh said.
He added that the aim of road shows in Bo on Wednesday is to ensure that the message reaches the wider public which will generate enthusiasm around the concept of climate justice.
Mr. Bayoh said that ‘’the road show in Bo raised the awareness of people to be knowledgeable about the need to protect the environment as human (anthropogenic) activities which are key drivers of climate change.’’
He went on to say that as the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP 26) will be held in Glasgow next week, there was a need for education around the importance of the COP 26 as the conference marks the most consequential global climate submit in years and a critical opportunity for Government to raise their ambition and commit to the policies needed to tackle the climate crisis.
Speaking during a road show along Shelmingo Round-about and Bo Clock Tower, residents of Bo commended PACJA for educating them to protect the environment and letting them to understand the relevance of COP 26 and they are calling on African leaders to advocate for financing African countries like Sierra Leone badly hit by natural disasters as a result of climate change.
