The former Executive Director for Partners in Health (PIH) Sierra Leone, John Lasher says the Maternal Centre of Excellence with 166 beds will soon be constructed in Koidu city with the help of Partners around the world.
There were a lot of skeptisisms around the operations of the aforementioned organization in Kono with regards their mission in the district since 2014. According to John Lasher, the establishment of PIH in Kono District including the Hospital Management Team, Ministry of Health and other international partners they were able to completely develop the Koidu Government Hospital within six and half years and at the same time reduced the maternal mortality in the district.
He noted that by coming with strong energy they can save and change the health system of the people by investing resources into the health sector. He said it is a call for concern not only in Sierra Leone but the world at large to see women and children dying prematurely.
He however expressed regret for country like Sierra Leone where diamond is been extracted for decades with no effective health system for the people. He promised to work hard for the improvement of the health facility in the district and the country at large.
