Overseas Fraud: Business Man Sentenced 36 Months Imprisonment

Chernoh Barrie a business man made his first appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown on one count charge to wit Obtaining money by false pretences contrary to the Laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the particulars of offence the accused person Chernoh Barrie on a date between the 1st day and the 10th day of July 2022, at Rokupa Wellington the western area in Freetown with intent to defraud obtained the sum of eight hundred United States Dollars (USD$ 800.00) equivalent to fourteen thousand, four hundred new Leones (14,400.00) from Musa Thoronka by falsely pretending that you will facilitate his overseas travelling to France, knowing the same to be false.

After the charges have been put to the accused the accused pleaded guilty.

The prosecutor CSP Zizer told the court that fact as charge no available records against the accused person.

The accused person was unrepresented and he pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.

However, Magistrate Ngegba sentenced the accused person to thirty six months imprisonment to the male correctional center in Freetown.
