Over Son’s Death: Father Testifies

At the Criminal session of the High Court Holden in Freetown on the 4th of March 2022 before Justice Adrian Fisher Santigie Bangura alias Wally or Jaggay, Abdul Rahman Dumbuya alias Kondo, and David Fortune alias Stone are standing trial on two counts charge to wit Conspiracy to Murder contrary to section 4 of the offences against the person Act, 1861 and Murder contrary to law.

According to the particulars of offence on diverse dates between the 20th to the 24th day of March 2019 in Freetown conspired together to Murder Mohamed Umaru Karmoh Kamara and on count two at the same date Murder the said Mohamed Umaru Karmoh Kamara.

Leading evidence by State Counsel Solomon Kekura

First Prosecution witness (PW1) Abdul T Kamara said he knew the 1st and 2nd accused persons in the community and didn’t know the fourth accused person, but said he knew Mohamed Umaru Kamara the deceased as his Son.

He said he recalled Sunday 24th March 2019 as he was at home and heard a voice calling out his name Mr. Tongo they have killed your son. The witness said he can recognize some of them, he said they return home crying and he hurriedly left for the scene where he saw his son in a pool of blood.  

PW1 said he went to the Connaught Hospital and met a doctor who took him to the mortuary where he saw he saw his son, and called out his name trice but could not respond.  He said they went to the police station were statement was obtained from him and his witnesses on the same day himself and the officers went to the scene of crime were photographs was taken. He said he witnessed the postmortem on the 2nd of April 2019 himself, the police investigators, and some of his family members the medical certificate of the cause of death was shown to the witness, and after the postmortem, he buried his son.  

Cross examination by defense counsel C.Campbell asked the witness whether he spoke with the doctors before the conduct of the postmortem; the witness said no.

Matter was adjourned to the 11th March 2022 for further hearing.
