Traders at Gbongo Market in Bo have registered their dissatisfaction over the snail pace at which of the Bo City Council is managing the waste deposited for onward delivery to the garbage site.
Speaking in a downbeat mood, the trader stated that they are paying their dues to the council but the council is not effectively handling the waste disposal issue and evidence of that claim is seen in huge piles of garbage in the market environs.
According to Juliana Brima, because the council is failing to clear the waste, it has become an eyesore and poses health challenges, which is not good for human existence.
She called on the Waste Management Department of the Bo City Council to spring into action to always ensure that they send their garbage trucks to the market to clear the solid waste.
However, Councilors from the area where the Market is located also raised the concerns of the traders at the council meeting on Thursday, 27 May and called on the Waste Management Department of the council to go into action to clear the Wastes deposited at the market.
They said that they have received several complaints from the traders and they are always promising them that action will be taken to address such concerns raised.
Reacting to the traders concern at the Bo City Council meeting, the Chief Administrator of the Bo City Council, Veronica Josephine Fortune said that the councilors need to talk to the people to show understanding against the backdrop that they do not have enough garbage trucks and the few available have been defective most of the time.
She said that the traders need to know that household waste is also deposited at Gbongo Market that is why there is a lot of wastes coming from that market and as a council they are doing their level best to lobby to have more garbage trucks and if their development partners come in, it will also salvage the situation.
Madam Fortune called on the people of Bo City to pay their business license and other taxes to enhance development and that they people should go to the bank and pay in order to avoid leakages in the payment system.
She said that action are being taking against businesses and institutions who fail to pay their taxes, citing the Electricity Distribution Supplying Authority.(EDSA), which was closed but is now opened after one year payment was done and time given to them to complete payment.
