In a recent statement, Honorable Sidi Tunis, a prominent member of parliament, emphasized the paramount importance of party unity over individual ambitions in the succession of the Speaker of Parliament. Tunis clarified that the decision to appoint the deputy speaker as the new speaker had been unanimously agreed upon within the party caucus.
Tunis conveyed that he had communicated this decision to all caucus leaders in parliament, stressing the party’s directive as crucial. He underscored that while there were no explicit laws dictating the succession process, party unity took precedence over individual aspirations.
Addressing speculations regarding his own candidacy, Tunis reiterated his allegiance to the party’s leadership choice, Honorable Sengepoh Solomon Thomas. He cited Thomas’s previous leadership roles and affirmed the party’s confidence in his ability to lead.
Regarding recent developments involving Mohamed Bangura’s removal from the ECOWAS Parliament, Tunis clarified that such matters were unrelated to parliamentary decision-making. He emphasized the need for genuine reconciliation between political parties for the betterment of Sierra Leone.
Tunis urged support for President’s initiatives, particularly the “big five” agenda, emphasizing pressing national issues such as drug abuse, unemployment, and economic challenges. He assured the public that the SLPP would appoint a seasoned leader, capable of addressing the nation’s diverse challenges.
