Over Le 263 Million Fraud At Uba: Police Testifies

Detective Police Sergeant Bockarie Kallon attached to the Anti-Fraud Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department Pademba Road, on Monday 3rd October, 2022 testified how he investigated the United Bank of Africa (UBA) theft matter involving one of their staff Patrick Abubakar Moore.

The accused Moore was arraigned before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No.1 for 6 count charges of Larceny by servant.

According to the particulars of offences, between 23rd of March 2018, and 21st of March 2022, at the United Bank of Africa (UBA), the accused being a servant employed as the acting head of domestic operations by the United Bank of Africa main branch at No. 9 Charlotte street stole the sum of  Le262,042,167.12 (two hundred and sixty two million, forty two thousand , one hundred and sixty seven Leones, twelve cent) which he posted into savings account No. 540620520003271 and later using the bank mobile app platform transfer same to his wallet, property of the United Bank of Africa, in Sierra Leone.

Led in evidence by Assistant Superintendent of Police Christiana Davis Cole, the Police Investigator said on the 25th of March 2022, he was on duty at the Anti-Fraud Unit when the accused was arrested by staff of United Bank of Africa and some police officers and brought to the CID.

He said a report of larceny by servant was made against him and upon receiving the report he obtained statement from complainant and witnesses.

The Investigator said having obtained the statements, the accused, staff of UBA and other officers went and conduct search at the premises of the accused but nothing of police interest was found.

He said during the cause of investigation, one Adama Kamara who was identified by the accused was brought to the station.

The witness furthered that the on the 27th March, 2022 on the presence of Police constable 14288 Bangura,

 a contemporaneous statement was obtained from the accused.

He said that was done in the presence of his colleague and the accused lawyer.

In continuation of his examination in chief, the police witness said during the cause of investigation on 31st of March 2022, he invited some officials from UBA bank to make statements.

At this stage, the Prosecutor sought the Bench for an adjourn date for the witness to come and continue his testimony.

The matter was adjourned to the 17th October, 2022.
