Traders at the Musa Street Market in Bo have registered their sheer disappointment at the deplorable condition of the market, leading to traders moving from other places to sell their goods.
According to Sarah Nyambeh, “we are paying our dues but the council is not doing anything to give a facelift to the market and improvement on the waste management at the market.”
She claimed that they have several times reported to the management of the council to improve on the ugly state of the market but to no avail.
Reacting to the allegation, the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Officer of the Bo City Council, Mac’Ivan Kapkindi Vandi admitted that they are aware of the condition of the Musa Street Market.
“This is a ‘Kombra’ Council that has concern for the people and the traders in the municipality of Bo and is committed to delivering the needed services to the people”, he said.
The rehabilitation of the Musa Street Market IEC Officer said is among the projects in our annual work plan this year, but we have opened bids for the projects since June 25 this year.
Mr. Vandi said that the bids are now in the evaluation stage and after the evaluation stage the council will submit them to the National Public Procurement Authority before the contract is awarded.
According to him, the resources that will be spent on the projects are revenue generated from the traders and the people in Bo.
He further added that we want to ensure that what the people give, is given back to them because we are concerned about the people and want to continue giving them the needed services to their admiration.
