Over Alleged Robbery Driver Granted Le50M Bail

32yrs old Tejan Turay AKA Mayor a driver made his first appearance before Magistrate Peter Gogra of Pademba road court No.6 in Freetown on two count charges ranging from Robbery with aggravation contrary to section 23 (2) of the Larceny Act as replaced and replaced by Section 2 of the imperial Statutes criminal law Adoption Amendment Act 1971 Act No.16 of 1971.

According to the particulars of offence on Saturday 30th October 2022 at Hamilton the western area in Freetown being armed with knife robbed Iye Mansaray mixed colour Lady’s bag, one Iphone 12 Pro max, one S-22 ultra mobile phone one silver chain, one gold chain, a fiscal cash of six thousand six hundred fifty Leones (6,650,00) and Seven hundred United States dollars equivalent to eleven thousand nine hundred and seventy Leones all to the total value of fifty thousand five hundred and fifteen Leones(50,515,00) properties of the said Iye Mansaray.

On count two the accused person at the same place being armed with knife robbed Musu Frazer one Hawai mobile phone valued two thousand Leones (2,000,00).

The charges were read and explained to the accused person No plea was taken.

Assistant Superintendent of police Abdul Sannoh lead prosecuting Prosecution witness number three Police Constable 13188 Josephine Musa attached to the Anti-Robbery unit Lumley police station she recognized the complainant and the accused person in the dock she recall on the 30th October 2022.

She was on duty when a case and enquiry file was received from Adonkia police station the file contained the statement of the complainant and witnesses the witness said the said file contains exhibit of one Iphone 12 promax and Physical sum of three hundred Leones.

 The matter was allocated to her for further investigations.

The witness said on the 2nd November 2022 the accused was arrested and brought to the police station on the 3rd November 2022.

The accused was arrested and brought to the police station on the 6th November 2022 herself and Police Constable 16955 Koroma L obtained voluntary caution statement from.

The accused person was cautioned and questioned separately the statement was read over and explained to the accused person and he admitted it to be true and correct by afflicting his right hand thumbprint since then the statement was in the custody of the police it was produce and tendered in court to form part of the court records.

 The witness said an additional voluntary caution statement was obtained from the accused person the witness said on the same date she obtained charge statement from the accused person the charge statement was produce and tendered in court to form part of the court records.

The accused person was unrepresented.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Gogra granted the accused person bail in the sum of fifty million Leones with two sureties in like sum sureties to be resident in the western area sureties to produce valid national passport for identification one surety to be employed in a government institution in Sierra Leone one surety to be 50yrs and above surety to be a property owner in Freetown bail to be approved by the Bench.

 Matter was adjourned to the 20th December 2022 for further hearing.
