The joint operation mounted in Kambia by the security forces has led to the confiscation of over four thousand small arms bullets and quit recently, dozens of military regalia were discovered at a garage on Percival Street in Freetown.
The Director of Crime Services at the Sierra Leone Police, AIG.William Faya Sellu has confirmed that six suspects are in custody in connection to the importation of the combats adding that they will get to the motive behind the importation of such a large number of combats.
He divulged that when they got the tip off, police rushed to the scene and found one Chernor Jalloh and Josephine Yenor packing the combats and other assorted military wearing. The items, according to investigation, were offloaded from the port to a compound in Yams Farm by one Ibrahim Barrie who is an importer.
In another development, our source in Kambia tipped us that large quantum of small arms might have been crossed over to Sierra Leone through porous border routes bypassing the security forces in the checkpoints. Abu Marrah, a businessman at Balamuya said the trafficker run into bad luck but praised the police for their pro activeness in discovering such a large amount of lethal weapon which are currently in police hands to ascertain if the importer is licensed to deal in small arms.
However, members of the public are calling for border and other strategic checkpoints to be well equipped to match up higher standards.
