Orange Sierra Leone (Orange-SL), one of the country’s leading mobile network operators, has issued a strong public notice urging its customers to comply with the National Telecommunications Authority (NatCA) directives by October 2025, to avoid potential SIM card deactivation.
In a widely circulated announcement signed by Orange-SL’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alfie Barrie, the company emphasized the importance of registering all SIM cards using the National Identification Number (NIN) issued by the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA). Failure to comply, the statement warned, will result in the deactivation of unregistered SIM cards from the company’s system.
“We encourage our esteemed customers to register their SIM cards with NatCA by linking them to their NCRA-issued NINs,” the statement read. “Failure to follow these directives will lead to SIM card deactivation.”
Mr. Barrie further stated that NatCA has instructed all telecommunications companies operating in Sierra Leone to ensure full compliance from their subscribers. He noted that the directive is part of ongoing national efforts to enhance digital security, safeguard user data, and improve national identity management systems.
In an effort to make the process easier for subscribers, Orange-SL has introduced a convenient digital registration method. Customers can now register their SIM cards via WhatsApp by sending clear photos of the front and back of their NCRA-issued ID card, along with their Orange phone number, to the designated number: +232 72 999 995.
This initiative is aimed at reducing congestion at service centers and ensuring seamless compliance with the registration directive before the deadline.
“We urge all Orange subscribers to take advantage of this simplified registration process to avoid the inconvenience of being disconnected,” the notice added.
The company stressed that October 2025 remains the final deadline for registration as directed by NatCA. Any SIM cards not properly linked with a valid NIN by that time will be permanently deactivated.
Orange-SL concluded the notice by encouraging all customers to prioritize registration to continue enjoying uninterrupted voice, SMS, and internet services.
