In a recent development, the Ombudsman of Sierra Leone, Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq, made a significant gesture by paying a courtesy visit to the National President and executives of the Sierra Leone Scout Association at their headquarters in New England, Freetown.
During the visit, the Ombudsman emphasized the crucial role of his office, which is anchored in the Constitution of Sierra Leone Act No. 6 of 1991 and the Ombudsman Act of 1997. He underscored the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution methods to address grievances and highlighted the mandate of his office in investigating administrative acts or omissions by prescribed authorities, including government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Notably, the Ombudsman pointed out that the Sierra Leone Scout Association, as an entity supervised by the Ministry of Social Welfare, falls within the jurisdiction of his office. This acknowledgment reaffirmed the Ombudsman’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability within government institutions.
In response, Sheik Fomba Swaray, the President of the Sierra Leone Scout Association, expressed gratitude for the visit and commended the Ombudsman’s efforts in addressing issues of injustice and maladministration. He highlighted the Scout Association’s dedication to instilling discipline in its members and pledged full support to the Office of the Ombudsman.
The visit signifies a collaborative approach between governmental bodies and civil society organizations in upholding good governance practices and safeguarding the rights of citizens.
