Old Edwardians Football Club has on the 11th November 2022 unveiled their new signings ahead of the new season of the Sierra Leone Premier League.
The historical event took place at the School Compound in Kingtom, as Ex-players, new ones and Supporters witnessed the unveiling process ahead of the Premier League.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Ishmail Sheriff Esq. the Chairman of the Old Edwardian Association Team Manager said after the 100-year Centenary celebration the then Chairman send him a resignation Letter that he is quieting the Club, the current executive was shocked coupled with mixed feelings.
“On the first 1st March 2022 they decided to launch an Operation called Operation stop the bleeding the current Executive and Ex-Players to map out the way forward for the Club not relegated from the top flight Sierra Leone Premier League, they then decided to put heads together and raise funds, noting that they have to meet the players and spoke to them what the club is going through the players had to put their best and ready to deliver in the remaining matches, because when the Chairman resigned he took away bulk of the players that he signed for the club during his tenure that cost the club greatly unless as executive members had to find ways to restore the club and fight with the few players remaining”.Mr Sheriff.
He furthered that, the time they started seeing progress with the current players in the match against East End Lions at the Approved School playing ground was when the team stood firm and grab all three points after that they called the players and had talks with them to fight the relegation and that held them to survive the topflight. Noting this time around what they want is for the players to give their best and compete in the Premier League, they as Executives are ready to support the players financially, morally, and physically, the fans are also ready to support them in the Premier League. Nothing that if the club on winning they will attract sponsors who will come and held them, he cited that two years ago they had sponsorship from Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, Africell, and other companies that came to their aid and help them in the Premier League they also want to work on getting the good results to attract such again in this year Premier League.
Alhaji Bobor Barrie the Team Manager of Old Edwardian Football Club said the club needs total involvement from the executive members, the Supporters, the players, and the technical team all need to come on board and help the club to get it past Glory, where people know Old Edwardian before in 70,80s.
He called on the players to be disciplined noting if a player is not disciplined that player is not going to make it and gain the limelight, tell the players not to take a harmful substance like the one that is on the rampage the kush as it is not good for the players and tell them to be committed ahead of the new season.
Abdul Aziz Jalloh the assistant Team Manager of Edwardian Football Club addressing Ex-Players layers and active players said that is due to the hard work of some executive members who stood firm and help the club from relegation, noting that that could have been a difficult situation for the only School team that is in the Sierra Leone Premier League.
He affirmed that the current Executive is new in terms of administration of the club with good thinking, but needs the support of the entire membership of Old Edwardian Football Club, noting that the club is not going to be run by a single individual but a membership wise and called on the and sundry to hands together to transform the club in the country.
He confirmed that when they take over only six players are owned by Old Edwardian players and all the rest are loan players from other clubs, pointing out that that has changed now because eight percent of the current players are owned by the club.
” We signed this player not that we are expecting returns, but we did this because it is our responsibility to give back to the School and to also structure the club he called on everybody to come on board and fight as one to develop the club”, he explained.
