Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No. 1 has remanded Adekalie Sesay at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown for allegedly conspiring with unknown persons to rob the complainant of his backpack, mobile phone and other valuables worth approximately thirty thousand Leones (NLe30,000).
The incident occurred on Wednesday 27th July 2023 within Liberia and Salone Bars in the eastern part of Freetown.
Adekalie Sesay appeared before the court for the offences of robbery with violence and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to law.
It was alleged by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) that the accused, on the aforesaid date and place in Freetown, robbed the complainant of his mobile phone and other valuables valued approximately NLe30, 000
Led in evidence by Sergeant 9874 Turay M.M. Prosecution witness (PW) 2, a driver, Abdul Kamara who doubles as a factual witness residing at Kissy in Freetown said he knew the complainant in respect of the matter including the accused and could recall the day in question.
Kamara continued that on the said date, he was in between Liberia and Salone Bars.
He added that while he was coming towards Salone Bar, he saw the accused boarded motorbike while the complainant was on phone coming towards the accused.
PW 2 said while the complainant was on his the way, someone came behind him and snatched his mobile phone and boarded the accused’s motorbike.
He said when the accused attempted to drive off the bike the complainant rushed at him and held the motorbike which he said resulted into fracas between them.
‘My Lord, while I was still observing, I saw other men rushed at the crime scene trying to rescue the motorbike, but they couldn’t. The complainant trying to ride the bike, but he couldn’t, I then rushed at the crime scene both of us boarded the motorbike and left for Shell Police Post in Freetown,’ Kamara narrated to the court.
During the fracas between them he said one of the accused’s men grabbed the complainant’s phone and flee the crime scene
He said at upon their arrival at the Shell Police Post the accused pursued them and was subsequently arrested upon narrating the incident
On the following day, the witness said he made statement at the above-mentioned police post.
Though the accused was not legally represented, Magistrate Kekura accorded him an opportunity to cross examine the witness.
Responding, he, the accused told the court that he had no questions for the witness.
Magistrate Kekura denied the accused bail and remanded him at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 28th August 2023 for further hearing
