On Monday, June 12, 2024, Octopus Group officially handed over a parcel of land measuring approximately two plots to the Mongegba Community for the construction of a modern hospital. This donation, aimed at addressing the urgent healthcare needs of the community, marks a significant step towards improving medical services in the area.
The community, which has been grappling with the complete absence of a healthcare facility, expressed immense gratitude during the handover ceremony. Community Headman Abu Sesay highlighted the pressing health challenges faced by residents, particularly vulnerable women during childbirth. He emphasized the critical need for a functional hospital to serve the growing population, which currently lacks adequate medical care.
Sesay detailed the dire circumstances, recalling instances where pregnant women had to deliver babies en route to the nearest healthcare facility in the Charlotte community. He stressed the community’s long-standing desire for a hospital to save lives and improve health outcomes.
During the ceremony, Octopus Group Manager Rajie Saad handed over the official documents, including the title deed and a recent survey of the property, to the community. Saad expressed his commitment to leaving a lasting legacy for Mongegba and discussed his business plans aimed at further benefiting the community. He assured that necessary measures had been taken with the Ministry of Lands to ensure the land is used appropriately for its intended purpose.
“By God’s/Allah’s willingness and grace, we are now officially handing over the property to the community,” Saad remarked. He reiterated his dedication to the project and the positive impact it would have on the residents.
Representing the women of Mongegba, Madam Jennifer spoke passionately about the desperate need for a healthcare facility. She emphasized the challenges faced by pregnant women and thanked Rajie Saad for his humanitarian gesture, which she described as a beacon of hope for the community.
Youth Leader Abdul Kamara also praised Saad’s contribution, noting the significant health risks faced by the over 3,000 residents of Mongegba due to the lack of a hospital. He highlighted that women and children are particularly vulnerable and expressed optimism about the positive changes the new hospital would bring.
The donation of land by Octopus Group is seen as a vital development for the Mongegba Community, promising improved healthcare services and a brighter future for its residents.
