Yaraba Kargbo, a caretaker at a land at Adonkia, Goderich, Freetown, has on the 17th January 2022, remanded in prison custody by Magistrate Alpha Rashid Jalloh of Pademba Road Court No 4 for obstructing Census Supervisor for performing his lawful duties.
The accused is charged with three counts of obstruction contrary to Section 21 (3)(b) of the Statistics Act 2002, threaten language contrary to Section 3 (1) of the Public Order Act No 46 of 1965 and Public Insult and provocation contrary to Section 2 of the Public Order Act No 46 of 1965. According to the charge sheet on count 1, the accused Yaraba Kargbo on Tuesday 14th December 2021, at Potor Adonkia, Goderich, off Peninsula, Freetown, willfully obstruct John Jawara of Statistics whilst executing his duty as Supervisor of the Mid Term Census within Potor, Adonkia, Goderich, the western area in Freetown.
On count 2, the accused on the same date and place did use threatening language against John Jawara with intent to provoke him to commit the breach of the peace and count 3 state that the accused on the same date and place, in the view of the public and in the presence of John Jawara, did use certain insulting language against the said John Jawara in such a manner as would be likely to provoke him to commit a breach of the peace. After reading the charges to the accused person he pleaded guilty to all counts charges, but according to the Prosecutor, Sergeant 9939, Lahai M, he told the court that he went to Statistics with the subpoena to the witness but the witness John Jawara told him unless he get on to his bosses about the matter, but they did not want case. After that information given to the Court, Magistrate Alpha Rashid Jalloh said the complainant must come to Court to say it before he decides what to the with the accused after pleaded guilty.
However, the accused person was sent to the male correctional center in Freetown and matter adjourned to the 20th January 2022.
