In addressing Paramount Chiefs in the Karene district in Kamakwie in the North West, the President said for far too long government after government have been abusing Paramount Chiefs in Sierra Leone. His message has been endearing to chiefs in the north and they say “we hope and pray that you will rule for another second term.”
The President said as a son of a Paramount Chief he will bring back respect and honor to the Paramount Chiefs. He said his government has started given token to Paramount Chiefs. President Bio said the Paramount Chiefs are the primary representative of his or her district to outsiders, and it is essentially impossible to do anything in district without the knowledge and approval of the Paramount Chief.
He added that Paramount Chiefs also play major role in resolving disputes, as they no longer have the legal right to operate a court, but they are allowed to mediate or arbitrate, and often still adjudicate despite the legal prohibition. The President assured the people of Kamakwie that under his government all Paramount Chiefs will have a vehicle; they will no longer ride motor bike, as arrangements are on the way.
The President concluded by saying the people should respect their Paramount Chiefs as they are the custodian of their district, and as they rule through a network of sub chiefs and chiefdom functionaries at chiefdom, section, and town or village level. The President said in Sierra Leone, much has been said about the abuses of the Paramount Chiefs, and as a son of Paramount Chief which narrative he is now ready to change.
Responding to A-Z media one of the Chief said they are happy for the step taken by the President, as they will pray for him and his family to rule this country for another five years, as they are the custodian of their people and they will rally round their people to see reason to vote back the President.
The Paramount Chief continued that to restore glory back to them as Paramount Chief is a good thing especially for the Northern Paramount Chiefs. They promised to overwhelming vote for him come 2023.
