NOC ENDS TWO-DAY WORKSHOP FOR ATHLETES

The National Committee of Sierra Leone has on the 10th December,2021 ended a two-day workshop for Athletes on Anti-Doping and prepared them for international events, the training takes place at the Olympia Africa at Godrich the West part of Freetown.

According to Dr. Patrick Coker the President of the Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee,  said the training is timely because if athletes are teach about Anti- Doping it will be challenge and that has been the challenge over the years with the poor performance of athletes in international competitions. That why as Committee they thought if fit to stage the two day workshop to admonish them on the key areas of Anti-Doping, Injuries treatments, First Aid treatments and transfer areas.

He affirmed that the National Olympic Committee will continue to do such workshop the raised the awareness of athletes before departing for international tournament. He further that it is now time the Association try to know who they want to lead them as President of the National Olympic Committee, because come next year he will not be in such capacity.

The Athletes Commission, President Frank Turay expressed thanks and appreciation to the IOC and the NOC for the funding they help them with in making sure that the workshop is held.

He added that the athletes needed to take the workshop with seriousness because the area of Anti-Doing has been major concerns over the years and that has been affecting the athletes in International competitions and they need to move away from such.

The Athletes we’re reprimanded on the following areas,

1. Anti-Doping

2. First Aid treatment

3. Injuries treatments

4. Retirement stage

Fatima’s Kargbo from the Sierra Leone Athletics Association said this is the first workshop she has attended that has to do such key area in Sports and hope to put all things in to good use as she continued her preparations for the upcoming International competitions.

Mohamed Foday Kandeh from the Sierra Leone Gymnastics started by telling thanks to IOC and NOC from such a workshop because they have never attended such training before and he has learned lots and hopes to implement all the things learnt.

The Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee Joseph Nyande were the lecturers in the two day workshop including Dr. Patrick Coker.
