Minister of Health Dr. Austin Demby has isolated HIV AIDS as one area the country has made significant progress in tackling asserting that figures are impressive in test and treatment.
“I am here saying that nobody can die of HIV AIDS in this country where patients are diagnosed and are taking their treatments regularly to decrease viral loads and become normal citizens,” the Minister said.
He however noted that the major challenge with AIDS is to deal with stigma, which requires much public health education and awareness for members of the community to stop despising those infected.
The Minister argues that stopping HIV AIDS stigma is the only way people with opportunistic medical conditions can come forward and be tested to know their status and go through the treatment regimen, noting “that HIV AIDS is nolonger a death sentence.”
He said he had been in Malawi where experience in home care treatment has proven to be effective in dealing with HIV/AIDS and “I am going to deploy that diagnostic strategy so that we are going to tackle HIV/AIDS in this country.”
