The NJALA University have reacted to allegations levied by some students regarding the withholding of their certificates after completing their courses, through a press release issued by the Public Relations Office.
Some students alleged that they have graduated from the University since 2019 but have been deliberately deprived of their certificates even though they have met all their financial obligations.
This according to them have deprived them of getting jobs, scholarships and other benefits. The registry therefore wishes to set the records straight for the benefit of the general public.
According to the release students who have completed their programmes and had their names published should register for graduation and had their degrees conferred on them by the Chancellor of the University.
“Grandaunts who have fulfilled the above are expected to sign a specimen at the university registry. This is to ensure that their details are correctly stated in their certificates. The university registrar further provides for the issuance of certificates on an emergency basis at no extra cost. However, applicants requesting for these Services are expected to give a week notification to the registrar. Holders of the Sierra Leone Grant in Aid, have the obligation to honor all the financial obligations and follow the procedures leading to the issuance of their certificates”, the release noted.
On the other hand the students alleged that the Class of 2019 Graduates Students are left with no option but to go to the street and look for odd jobs to earn their living as the university administration has deprived them the right of competing with other students in the cooperate world.
“We have met our own -side of the agreement (pay all charges: Graduation fee, Transcript etc) but yet still the administration cannot meet to their own side by providing original document for us”, one of the affected students pointed out.
