The newly transferred Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Bo West Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Augustine Kabia, has unveiled his strategic plans to strengthen security and combat crime within his jurisdiction and by extension, the wider Southern Region of Sierra Leone.

Speaking to this medium, CSP Kabia emphasized his readiness to tackle rising criminal activities, particularly armed robbery, which has recently caused concern among residents in Bo and Kenema Districts. The former Operations Officer of the Bo West Divisional Headquarters, now appointed as the Local Unit Commander, described his promotion as a recognition of his past performance in safeguarding lives and property. He stated that his leadership would be grounded in proactive and collaborative policing.

One of the key pillars of his strategy, CSP Kabia explained, is community engagement. He said that he has already begun implementing this approach by visiting communities such as Kandeh Town, New York, and New London, where residents have shown willingness to volunteer in community policing efforts.

“Security is a collective responsibility. Under my leadership, we are prioritizing community policing, because police officers are not divine beings we need the public’s support to succeed,” he noted.

CSP Kabia also disclosed enhancements in the police patrol system. He stated that while fewer officers will patrol the streets during the day, a larger, more strategic deployment comprising both armed and unarmed officers—will be carried out during the night across Bo and its immediate outskirts.

“This approach sends a clear message: the police are fully prepared to combat crime and restore peace not only in Bo City but across the Southern Region,” he said.

He further assured residents of Bo that his administration is committed to ensuring “watertight” security. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or unfamiliar individuals in their communities.

In a bid to foster open communication and rapid response, CSP Kabia encouraged citizens to contact him directly with credible information. He shared his personal contact number: 099815087, and called on the public to be active participants in maintaining law and order.
