“I am a politician and a very good one at that but I like speaking my mind for God and for Country. In the current circumstances, I don’t have the slightest doubt in my mind that Mrs. Moseray is properly qualified to be commissioner for the National Electoral Commission in the Western Region”. These were the direct words from the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas during the vetting of presidential nominees by the Committee on Appointment and Public Service.
Deputy Speaker of Sierra Leone’s Parliament also noted that the issue relating to the integrity of Zainab Moseray particularly with the investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission has vindicated Madam Moseray.
He reiterated that the complaint was made to the Anti-Corruption Commission and the committee got a response vindicating Madam Moseray of wrong doing and in fact, the case against her has been closed.
Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas continued that the issue around Consultation has been settled especially when some political parties are saying they were consulted and others are saying they were not consulted. He authoritatively stated that the existing circumstance of consultation and no consultation, does not lie in their purview as a committee, but rather recommends to the plenary on the above mentioned issues.
He furthered that the committee is not a constitutional court and therefore, suggested that if there are any doubt relating to what is known as proper consultation, he said such doubt can only be resolved by the constitutional court or the Supreme Court.
He emphasized that what is called consultation can only be determined by the supreme court of Sierra Leone and not the house of Parliament.
“Mrs. Moseray, I can properly vow for you that you are qualified to be a commissioner and I will go all out to give my support to you. I will always support women because I believe in them”, he concluded.
