The National Electoral Commission (NEC) in Kono District has completed nominations for political parties in Kono District ahead of the pending local council bye-elections in ward 091 in Sandor Chiefdom scheduled for the 13th November 2021.
The vacuum was created following the demise of the then councillor John Trye of the aforementioned ward in Sandor Chiefdom in the Kono District council under the ticket of the coalition for Change (C4C) party.
The public elections act of 2012 gives NEC the mandate to conduct elections to fill in a vacant seat in the event the substantive person for a political seat resigns or passes on.
The nomination process is being observed by the political parties registration commission (PPRC) and the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
Meanwhile at least three political parties have showed interest to contest for the seat including the Ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) with Kai Sama Mondeh as its candidate, the Main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party sending Tamba Sogbeh as the Party’s candidate, Revolutionary United Front Party (RUFP) with Sahr Mambu as its candidate and one independent candidate in the person of Sahr Issah all of who have gone through the nominations process.
Talking to this medium the District Returning Officer of NEC kono Usman Joe Kamara noted that they have started the nominations process since 12th October, 2021 as nominations were still open by NEC for any political party or independent candidate that may opt to show interest.
