NCRA TRAINS HEALTH WORKERS ON DIGITAL REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS&DEATHS

The National Civil Registration Authority has on the 25th of October trained nurses on the use of the mobile app to be utilized in the registration of births and deaths.

The training was organized at the Buxton Memorial Hall in Freetown, which centers on the use of mobile app for health care workers on the registration of births and deaths, and birth and death making a shift from paper base to the digital age of registration.

Speaking at the event was the Acting Deputy Director of Human Resource of the National Civil Registration Authority Rosaline Massaquoi, said the training captures ten districts respectively, consisting of the North, North West, western urban and western rural regions.

She mentioned that the training is aimed at 1,250 health workers respectively, and cited that the overview purpose of the app is a comprehensive next generation ready to be utilized for the benefits of NCRA.

She gave guarantee of the security of the app as according to her, NCRA provides mobile phones to workers which is for the sole aim of the Registration tagging it to the short code application been provided by orange.

She explained that the use of the short code provides directives on the registration such as the date of birth, place of birth, mothers name and a security code number which NCRA provides in the successful registration.

She further stated the use of the death registration, of which registration is been displayed on the data base of NCRA, and later in turn use the data to register children on the VIU machine, which generates the National Identification Number (NIN) of which the birth certificate of the child is been issued.

 “The App is strictly from 0-90days”, she emphasized.

She expounded that the new birth and deaths certificate will be different from the old one, a securitized one, which contains National Identification Number which will be launched soon.

“The New mobile App will collate data on members of a family, in the case of distribution of governmental privileges and the code for the registration of births and deaths is *858# and for the supervisor is *909 of which further instructions on the registration is made like the name of the child, place of birth/district, an active phone number, date of birth, month and year etc.”, she narrated.

“There will be no more delay of registration of birth certificates”, Mrs. Massaquoi concluded.

Mr. Alhaji Sam Nyallo deputy director births and deaths also expressed joy over the mobile registration app as he says this will put them as a department in collating data of births and deaths figuratively.

 He warned of the penalty for headmen who are in the habit of issuing burial permit and says it is not the responsibility of these people to issue burial permit because it is an offence.

 He said NCRA is the only institution which has the mandate to do so and in doing so report to births and deaths office in the issuance of burial permit and further noted that these headmen are to give out only cemetery permit.

Mr. Alhaji concluded that the electronic system is fast and ideal in uploading the necessary information about an individual, as this will help reduce the rate at which women change the information about their child.

Mr. Raymond S Momoh a health worker at the police community health center expressed joy over the training of the mobile app registration.

Mr. Momoh stated that the new development will help them in collating correct figures of births and deaths figuratively.
