The National Youth Commission (NAYCOM), in collaboration with Pink Power and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), organized a debate competition in Kenema under the theme: “HIV/AIDS, Drugs, and Crime.”

The event brought together students from various secondary schools across Kenema District and focused on engaging young people in discussions about issues that directly affect their wellbeing, particularly substance abuse and its links to health and criminal activity.

Government Secondary School Kenema emerged as the overall winner of the competition, taking home the grand prize. All participating schools and students received consolation prizes in recognition of their efforts and contributions.

In his keynote address, Commissioner of the National Youth Commission, Ahmed Atata Mansaray Esq., encouraged the students to remain dedicated to their education while upholding the values of discipline, responsibility, and integrity.

“Sierra Leone’s future lies in the hands of its youth, and it starts with responsibility, discipline, and vision,” Commissioner Mansaray stated.

He also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring transparency, fairness, and inclusivity in all youth-led programs and competitions.

The debate not only served as an academic platform for healthy competition but also as a powerful tool for raising awareness on critical national issues and promoting youth empowerment.
