On Wednesday 15th February 2023, a cross-section of executive members of the National Scrabble Association of Sierra Leone visited the office of the Director General of Civil Aviation with a single purpose in mind, which was to show gratitude and appreciation to the DG Mr. Tiffa Mbayo and the Civil Aviation Authority for providing the Association with two Return Air tickets to Lusaka, Zambia to enable the association to participate in the 14th Edition of the African Scrabble Championship hosted in the above-mentioned Country.
In his statement of appreciation on behalf of the Scrabble Association, Lawyer Emmanuel King, a former National Scrabble champion and the Substantive Deputy Secretary General of the Scrabble Association of Sierra Leone said: “As an Association, we are deeply appreciative of the gesture of providing us with the Air tickets which enabled some of our players to participate in the Championship at the continental level”, King said.
He continued: “At some point, it seemed as though we wouldn’t have anyone compete in the championship and so the news of the two return Air tickets was well received by all members of the association and they are eternally grateful for the same… And to show our appreciation, we are presenting you this plaque which will serve as a constant reminder that as an Association we are eternally grateful and appreciative of your support and hope that this relationship continues to fester and reap good fruits”.
On receiving the plaque and appreciation letter from the Association, The Director General Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Tiffa Mbayo noted: “I am happy to receive this appreciation plaque from your Association, this is because I believe that we must all as citizens of this Country do what we must support positive strides by other members of our society and the fact that you have come back to show appreciation swells my heart with pride and Joy and makes me feel like I am doing my little bit in my little way and appreciated for it”.
“My institution sees these gestures as opportunities to give back to our people… This is a truly remarkable gesture by your Association”, he explained.
