The National Revenue Authority (NRA) of Sierra Leone has issued a public notice outlining new regulations for organizers of entertainment events, including concerts, music festivals, and album launches.

This directive aims to ensure compliance with local tax laws, specifically the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act of 2009, as amended.

According to the notice, event organizers are now required to secure a valid tax clearance certificate before proceeding with their events. This measure is intended to enhance tax collection and accountability within the entertainment sector, which has historically faced challenges in this regard.

The NRA emphasizes that failure to comply with this requirement could lead to penalties, including fines or legal action against the event organizers.

The authority has encouraged all stakeholders in the entertainment industry to familiarize themselves with the new regulations to avoid disruptions to their planned events.

The NRA’s initiative comes as part of a broader effort to improve revenue generation for the government, particularly in a post-pandemic context where many sectors are recovering.

By enforcing tax compliance among event organizers, the NRA aims to create a more equitable and sustainable tax environment.

Event organizers are advised to contact the NRA’s Tax Compliance Department at their ECOWAS Street office in Freetown for guidance on obtaining the necessary tax clearance certificates.

This proactive approach seeks to foster collaboration between the government and the entertainment industry, ultimately benefiting both parties.

As Sierra Leone continues to navigate its economic recovery, adherence to these new tax regulations is seen as crucial for promoting a responsible and thriving entertainment sector
