National Revenue Authority Commissioner General Shines at United Nations Tax Committee Meeting in Geneva

The 31st Session of the Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters recently concluded in Geneva, Switzerland, with significant contributions from Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, the Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) of Sierra Leone.

As a newly appointed member of the UN Tax Committee, Mrs. Bangura made a substantial impact at the meeting, which focused on advancing priorities for developing countries in the field of international taxation.

Mrs. Bangura played a key role in shaping discussions on critical issues such as the relationship between tax and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Updates to the UN Model. Capacity-building for stronger tax administration. Fair and effective rules on transfer pricing and the digital economy.

The meeting also explored the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing tax administration and compliance, with an emphasis on promoting equity, including gender-responsive tax policies.

In addition to these key topics, the National Revenue Authority (NRA) of Sierra Leone expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, noting that the experience had energized and aligned them for future reforms. The NRA is now ready to translate global deliberations into practical, homegrown tax reforms.

By participating in this influential meeting, Sierra Leone added its voice to decisions that will shape international tax cooperation over the next four years.
