The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, delivered a compelling chat at the Sierra Leone Innovates: Digital Government Summit held at the Bintumani International Conference Center. Her remarks formed part of a high-level dialogue on the theme “From Vision to Impact”, which brought together public and private sector leaders to explore the transformative role of digital innovation in governance and public service delivery.

Responding to a question on how digital reforms are being leveraged to protect and fairly treat the digital workforce, Mrs. Bangura affirmed that the NRA remains significantly ahead of the curve in digitalization. She emphasized that the Authority has designed and implemented systems to ensure flexibility in information transfer, data accessibility, and tax filing processes.

“We have digitalized a majority of our processes not just to serve today’s taxpayers, but to anticipate and respond to the needs of a growing, mobile, and globally connected workforce,” she stated.

The Commissioner General highlighted that NRA’s digital architecture accommodates not only domestic taxpayers, but also Sierra Leoneans operating businesses abroad, as well as individuals who work remotely or frequently travel. By doing so, she said, the Authority is ensuring inclusivity in tax compliance and expanding its reach beyond traditional borders.

Mrs. Bangura further explained that digitalization has introduced a new era of ease in taxation. By simplifying processes and enhancing transparency, businesses both within and outside of Sierra Leone are now better positioned to comply with tax obligations. She emphasized the relevance of aligning digital reforms with policy dynamics, ensuring that implementation achieves lasting impact for both present and future taxpayers.

Crucially, the Commissioner General underscored the importance of cross-agency collaboration in achieving effective digital transformation. According to her, innovation must go beyond institutional silos to deliver systemic benefits to the government and its citizens.

Her insights resonated with the summit’s vision of building a resilient and innovative digital government, affirming the NRA’s leadership in modernizing public service and tax administration through technology.
