The National Public Health Agency (NPHA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH)  announced that laboratory testing for a suspected Viral Haemorrhagic Fever (VHF) case in Kono has returned an indeterminate result.

The testing was conducted at the 34 Military Hospital Infectious Disease Laboratory.

According to the NPHA, the inconclusive outcome is likely due to the use of formalin, a chemical used for body preservation, which may have affected the sample’s integrity during collection.

In response, the NPHA and MOH are closely monitoring all identified contacts of the probable case. Officials confirm that all contacts remain asymptomatic.

These individuals will undergo a 21-day observation period, with follow-up testing planned at the end of the monitoring phase to ensure public safety.

The National Public Health Agency and Ministry of Health have reaffirmed their preparedness to respond to any potential outbreak. They are urging the public to remain calm and to rely solely on updates from official sources for accurate and timely information.

This development underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to transparency and readiness in tackling public health challenges.
