The National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA) has successfully conducted a study visit in Ghana, exploring strategic operational models in collaboration with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) of Ghana.

The engagement aimed to provide NPRA with in-depth insights into the regulatory frameworks and sound operational practices of the NPA, with the goal of adapting these models for implementation in Sierra Leone’s petroleum industry. The focus was on improving technical advancements, sound public policies, and effective human resource management within Sierra Leone’s sector.

Madam Wuyata Deen Swarray, the head of the Sierra Leone delegation and Director of Policy and Planning Development at NPRA, highlighted that the NPA’s management has shared a broad spectrum of key regulatory policies that have positioned Ghana’s petroleum industry as one of the most efficient in the sub-region.

Madam Swarray noted that NPRA has made steady progress over the past two years by developing and implementing international best practices, which have driven the Authority’s growth and stability. She emphasized that NPRA remains open to further reforms and the incorporation of foreign expertise to create a conducive environment for Sierra Leone’s downstream sector. The goal is to ensure that domestic and foreign investors, as well as end-users, see themselves as part of a unified and forward-looking industry.

Welcoming the Sierra Leone delegation, Godwin Kudzo Tamelko Esq., the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) of Ghana, commended the delegation for choosing Ghana’s petroleum industry as a model to learn from. He described this visit as a clear testament to the NPA’s progress and effectiveness over the years.
