The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has on the 27th February, 2021 donated 500KVA generator to NJALA University Bo campus as parts of its Cooperate social responsibility.

This donation came as a result of the outcry of the students over the years as they are having constraints with the problem of sustainable power supply for both campuses.

The ceremony had in attendance an array of personalities including the Minister of Higher Tertiary Education, Prof. Alpha Wurie, Energy Minister Alhaji Kanja Sesay, Paramount Chief Prince Lappia Boima of Kakua Chiefdom and Paramount Chief Professor Macavorie Kangbai perform their ritual rights.

Receiving the gesture, the Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Njala BO campus Professor Osman Sankoh lauded the effort of NASSIT in complementing the efforts of government to avail see NJALA University sustainable power supply for its students and enhancement of administrative work.

Professor Sankoh further revealed that his administration spent over two hundred millions Leones to generate electricity and water supply across its campuses since he assumed office in April 2020. “This has created huge financial burden to the University”, he stated.

He added: “The previous generator used by the University was 8kva which is not enough to serve the campus.”

NASSIT Director General, Faud Daboh said it is the mandate of the institution to complement the new direction’s efforts as education is the focus of the government to achieve the best training for young men and women as part of its human capital investment. He said Njala University is one of the biggest contributors to NASSIT and also future contributor of the scheme.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the University student’s Union President Ishmael Koroma. He thanked the government of Sierra Leone, the Energy Minister and by extension the Management and Staff of NASSIT for the great donation.

He further expressed optimism that the problem of electricity for both campuses will be laid to rest.  The SU President tabled another long standing problem of Internet access for students to do research, water supply, students’ bus, hostels among others. He called on government and other private institutions to come to the aid of the University to solve these problems.

Climaxing the event was the Pouring of libation done by the two Paramount chiefs; and the cutting of the tape by the Energy Minister and the Director General of NASSIT.
