In a dramatic turn of events at Murray Town Barracks in Freetown, Mark Abu Charlie, the son of Military Officer Alpha Charlie, finds himself embroiled in legal trouble after allegedly threatening his father and committing theft.

During a hearing before Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker of Court No.3 Pademba Road, Freetown, Military Officer Alpha Charlie testified that his own son, Mark Abu Charlie, had confronted him on Wednesday, January 31st, 2024. The accused reportedly entered the barracks and engaged in a heated argument with his father, warning him to cease unspecified “bad activities.” The situation escalated when Mark Abu Charlie allegedly threatened his father with a knife, prompting his mother, Bundu Charlie, to seek assistance from Military Personnel.

Despite attempts to defuse the situation, a physical altercation ensued, leading Mark Abu Charlie to flee the scene upon realizing that Military Personnel were being called. However, the confrontation didn’t end there. In the early hours of the following day, Mark Abu Charlie purportedly returned to the barracks and vandalized his father’s shop, causing damage to the door and stealing a total of nineteen thousand Leones, along with additional funds intended for business expenses.

Subsequently, Mark Abu Charlie was apprehended and taken into custody by law enforcement officers. He now faces two charges, as outlined in the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965 and the Larceny Act 1916. The first count alleges that Mark Abu Charlie utilized threatening language against his father with the intent to incite a breach of peace, while the second count accuses him of breaking into his father’s shop and stealing money.

Despite the severity of the charges, no bail has been granted to the accused, who remains in custody pending further legal proceedings. The case is being prosecuted by SI Bona.
